SULLY DISTRICT STATION

ATTEMPTED COMMERCIAL ROBBERY: 14631 Lee Highway (Dunkin Donuts), 02/23/19, 5:25 p.m. A man walked behind the counter of Dunkin Donuts, grabbed an employee and demanded money.  The employee broke free and ran away from the man.  The man then tried to open the cash register, but could not and ran out of the store.  The man is described as black, 25-35 years-old, wearing a red hat, dark jacket, light colored pants and dark shoes.

BURGLARY: 13000 block of Pennsboro Drive, 02/23/19, 5:35 p.m. The homeowner found their basement door open and personal items missing from the home.

MOUNT VERNON DISTRICT STATION

ROBBERY: 2600 block of Arlington Drive, 02/22/19, 10:27 a.m. A man was sleeping in his car when he woke up to a man tapping on his window. He saw two men, one was holding a gun and the other held a knife.  The men forced him out of his car, assaulted him and took his money before they ran away. The first suspect is described as black, 20-30 years old, 6’1”, heavy build, with dreadlocks, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, jeans and boots.  The second suspect is described as black, 20-30 years old, 5’10”, average build, with a goatee, wearing a red shirt, dark jacket, jeans and boots.

TRAFFIC PURSUIT: 8400 block of Frye Road, 02/24/19, 10:14 p.m. An officer saw a car being driven erratically and tried to conduct a traffic stop. As the officer walked up to the car, the driver drove away and refused to stop until reaching his home.  Charles Ruffner, 51, of Alexandria, was arrested for driving while under the influence, refusal of a breath test, eluding and resisting arrest. MASON DISTRICT STATION

ASSAULT (BIAS CRIME): 5800 Crossroads Center (A.C. Moore), 02/24/19, 7:01 p.m. A man and a woman were exiting the Safeway in the Crossroads Center when a man blocked their path, threatened them with harm and made derogatory racial comments. The couple ran away from the man who followed them into A.C. Moore where he assaulted the woman. The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life threatening. Mark Hooper, 50, of no fixed address, was arrested for strangulation and felony assault and battery upon another due to their race, religion, color, or national origin.

BURGLARY: 4100 block of Medford Drive, 02/23/19, 8:59 p.m. The tenant returned home to find their apartment in disarray.  Personal items were taken from the location.

FRANCONIA DISTRICT STATION

ATTEMPTED CARJACKING: 6868 Springfield Boulevard (Motel 6), 02/23/19, 8:59 p.m. Officers were in the area for a previous call when they saw a man forcibly take the car keys of another man, enter his car and try to start the engine.  Calvin Kyle, 32, of Fairmount Heights, Maryland, was arrested for carjacking, possession of marijuana and resisting arrest.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY (BIAS CRIME): Mclearen Road at West Ox Road, 02/23/19, 5:37 p.m. A woman reported swastikas spray painted onto a drainage tunnel.  The Virginia Department of Transportation was contacted and are in the process of fixing the damage.
