ASSAULT ON LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER/RESISTING ARREST/TRAFFIC VIOLATION: Lee Jackson Memorial Highway at Lee Road, 8/1/19, 10:35 a.m. Officers were called for a man walking through the roadway affecting traffic. He then ran when officers approached him. Officers caught the man a short distance away and the man tried to assault the officers. Virgil Snyder, 48, of Sterling, was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and traffic violation.

FRANCONIA DISTRICT STATION

HABITUAL OFFENDER / LARCENY: Franconia Road at Grovedale Road, 8/1/19, 7:24 p.m.  An officer made a traffic stop for a registration violation when the driver jumped out and ran away.  The officer caught the man and learned he had just stolen over $500 worth of food from a local grocery store.  53-year-old Robert Funderbuck, of Alexandria, was charged with driving as a previously convicted habitual offender, larceny, and arrested on an outstanding warrant for a felony fail to appear.
