FCPD Welcomes New Director of Information Technology Bureau
Fairfax, VA — Chief Davis from Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) is pleased to welcome Smitha Tumuluri as the new Director of its Information Technology (IT) Bureau.

In this role, Director Tumuluri will work with FCPD’s administrative and uniformed team leaders to develop IT strategies and solutions that align with the agency’s mission. A primary part of her focus will be to work with Department of Information Technology (DIT) teams to enable and support the agency’s 24/7 mission services. On the horizon for the director is working with other agencies, especially those within public safety to develop and deliver a tactical IT roadmap that focuses on security, portability and usability. Director Tumuluri is committed to building a customer-centric team where IT-as-a-service will be the motto.
Smitha Tumuluri brings a wealth of leadership and experience of over 20 years. Prior to joining the FCPD, Director Tumuluri worked for Meta on their leading-edge augmented reality platforms. Most of her technical and leadership contributions to the IT industry were geared towards serving in mission-oriented sectors like United States Agency for International Development and the American Red Cross.
Director Tumuluri has a bachelor’s degree in computer science from India, a Master of Science degree from the University of Texas – Dallas, and an M.B.A. Degree in Finance from George Mason University. She supports continuing education through professional certifications and publications.
Outside of IT, Smitha Tumuluri is passionate about volunteering with Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) and county school board systems. For many years she has been associated with Silicon Andhra, an NPO focusing on Manabadi’s goal of “literacy in the mother tongue”. She is excited to be expanding into other arenas within the Silicon Andhra organization. Her favorite roles are being a girl scouts’ mom, a boy scouts’ mom, and a sports team manager.
As an Indian-American and a DC metro native, Director Tumuluri feels honored to have been selected for this position and is looking forward to serving Fairfax County and beyond.
