Stolen Rental Truck Recovered by Auto Crime Enforcement Unit
Mount Vernon Police District– Our Auto Crime Enforcement (ACE) detectives routinely conduct proactive patrols in areas throughout the county searching for stolen cars to help keep our County safe.
On June 15, detectives located a stolen U-Haul in the Huntington area of Alexandria. The U-Haul was reported stolen from a local dealership. ACE units arrested the lone occupant, Vencent Edward Evans, 30, of Capitol Heights, Maryland. During an inventory search of the U-Haul, officers located a gun, 3 extended magazines, and more than 200 hundred rounds of ammunition.

Mr. Evans was charged with unauthorized use, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of ammo by a convicted felon. Mr. Evans was held at the Adult Detention Center with no bond.
Since January, 32 U-Hauls have been reported as stolen or the vehicles were not returned. Our detectives and Crime Prevention Officers continue to work with local rental vehicle distributors to ensure protocols are in place to keep their property safe.
