Results are In: The FCPD August Summer Crime Prevention Initiative’s Successful End

Fairfax, VA – Throughout the month of August, officers from our 2023 Summer Crime Prevention Initiative made over 50 felony arrests and over 50 misdemeanor arrests in an effort to take dangerous drugs out of our communities and hold criminals accountable.

In August, our officers focused on vehicle-related crimes. FCPD used data-informed crime analysis to identify trends and geographical areas where enforcement would be most effective. Summer Crime Prevention officers sought to drive vehicle-related crimes down through a multi-pronged approach, which included the use of proactive patrols and increased community engagement. Officers partnered with local businesses, including car dealerships, to provide theft prevention tips and security.

The efforts of our analysts and officers produced notable results. Officers made over 50 felony arrests, to include 32 Possession of Schedule 1 or 2 narcotics charges, and over 50 misdemeanor arrests, to include DUI and concealed weapon charges. Just under 400 vehicle and pedestrian contacts were made and many citations and warnings were given for traffic violations.

While the FCPD Summer Crime Prevention Initiative has ended, the coordinated efforts to reduce crime through strategic prevention and focused enforcement will continue to evolve and improve throughout the year. Initiatives such as these are vital to ensuring Fairfax County community members are safe and informed. FCPD is at the forefront of implementing strategic crime prevention tactics, and the success of these programs is demonstrated daily through the notable data trends.

FCPD wants to thank the officers and analysts who participated in the Summer Crime Prevention Initiative, their dedication to one another, the fight on crime, and the safety of Fairfax County.
