Detectives Seek Information in Springfield Reckless Discharge Cases

Franconia Police District – Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau are investigating two reckless discharges of a firearm that occurred in Springfield.

After midnight on October 22, officers responded to the 6900 block of Cabin John Road for the sound of gunshots in the area. Officers located several shell cases at this location. A canvass of the area was conducted, but a suspect was not located. There were no injuries to any person or damage to any property. After hearing the gunshots, nearby community members observed a suspicious vehicle leaving the neighborhood at a high rate of speed. No description of that vehicle is available.

At 9:56 p.m. on October 13, officers responded to the area of Highland Street and Channing Road for the report of gunshots. Several community members reported the sound of gunfire in the area. Officers found several shell cases at a nearby intersection. The immediate area was checked by officers, but no suspects were located.

Detectives and officers obtained camera footage of a light-colored sedan, traveling west on Highland Street. An occupant from this vehicle was observed firing a gun straight up into the air as it traveled toward Backlick Road. After an extensive check of the area, there was no injury to any person or damage to any property.

Detectives are investigating both these incidents and working to determine if they are related. Community members are asked to review their home surveillance footage. Surveillance footage can be posted for detectives to view via Neighbors by Ring.
