Suspect Arrested After Attempted Robbery of Two Juveniles in Gum Springs

Mount Vernon Police District – Officers searching the area find the suspect who attempted to rob two juveniles.

At 5:36 p.m. on Sunday, two juvenile victims were near the Gum Springs Community Center when they were confronted by the suspect who displayed a firearm and demanded all their valuables.

The two victims did not have any valuables, therefore – nothing was taken. The suspect ran toward Fordson Road. Officers saturated the area, and the suspect was found by officers on Holland Road.

Zelalem Zewde, 21, of Alexandria, was arrested and charged with one count of Attempted Armed Robbery and one count of Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony. The firearm was not recovered. Zewde is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.
