Update: Robber Flees Scene Empty-Handed
Mason Police District— Patrol officers from our Mason Police District arrest robbery suspect just 24 hours after the crime.
At 1:57 p.m., yesterday, officers responded to 3300 Gallows Road, INOVA Fairfax Hospital, for a man who was threatening employees. Officers quickly arrived and noticed the suspect matched the description from a previous robbery. Officers were able to confirm the suspect’s identity, link him to the robbery, and he was arrested.

Shaka Barnes, 43, of no fixed address was charged with Attempted Robbery and Destruction of Property. Barnes is being held at the Adult Detention Center on no bond.

Mason Police District—Detectives from our Criminal Investigations Division are seeking help from the community to identify a man who assaulted and attempted to rob a man in Annandale.
At 1:19 p.m., yesterday, officers responded to a robbery in the 3200 block of Woodburn Road. The suspect approached the victim, assaulted him, and demanded money.
After the assault, the suspect produced a knife. The victim again refused to give money and the suspect fled on foot. The suspect was described as a Black man, 6’02”, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue pants, and black square glasses. Patrol officers, K9, and our helicopter searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
Detectives discovered surveillance footage of the suspect from the robbery. Still images of the suspect were collected, which can be seen below.
