From Snack Time to Jail Time: FCPD Arrests Armed Robber
West Springfield Police District – Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau arrested a man in connection with two separate armed robberies.
On Nov. 16, at 10:25 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Heritage Drive and McWhorter Place in Annandale for an armed robbery. A man followed the victim when he got off a Metro Bus. The man displayed a black handgun, robbed the victim of his property and took an undisclosed amount of money. The victim was not injured.
Patrol officers provided information to detectives which determined the suspect used a stolen credit card from the victim at a nearby 7-Eleven to buy snacks and drinks. Surveillance images of the man were obtained by detectives, but the suspect was not located.
On Nov. 29, at 12:59 p.m., officers responded to an armed robbery in the 4700 block of Americana Drive in Annandale. The victim was waiting for a ride when the suspect brandished a firearm and demanded valuables. The victim attempted to run away but was assaulted by the suspect. The suspect was unsuccessful in taking the victim’s wallet then fled in a vehicle.
Utilizing surveillance footage and License Plate Reader technology, patrol officers successfully linked both armed robberies to James Donta Rogers, 32, of Alexandria and provided the information to detectives. On December 4, Rogers was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery, Credit Card Theft, Credit Card Fraud, Manufacturing a Firearm, and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony for the Nov. 16 robbery. He was charged with Armed Robbery, Manufacturing a Firearm, and Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony for the Nov. 23 robbery.
