High Stakes, Low Profile: Narcotics Detectives Work to Disrupt Drug Activity

Fairfax County, VA – Spearheading the region’s anti-narcotics efforts, detectives from our Narcotics Unit lead the way in disrupting illegal drug activities and preventing narcotics from entering our community.

Through their diligent investigations, detectives pursue leads, gather evidence, and collaborate with local and federal law enforcement partners to dismantle drug networks and hinder drug-related crime.

In 2023, our unit’s efforts led to the seizure of about 10 kilograms of illegal substances, including over 8800 grams of fentanyl, alongside $1 million in cash and 29 firearms. We filed 213 charges, executed 157 search warrants, and made 82 arrests, demonstrating our commitment to combatting drug trafficking and enhancing community safety.

The Narcotics Unit, led by one dedicated supervisor, supports ten skilled detectives specializing in undercover operations, surveillance, and drug interdiction. This adept team works to amass intelligence, execute search warrants, and dismantle drug trafficking organizations.

The unit is strengthened through the collaboration of two taskforce officers from other local jurisdictions, including Fairfax City and the Town of Vienna. This partnership enhances the unit’s ability to address drug-related issues across a broader geographic area.

The detectives of the Narcotics Unit engage in both full-time and part-time capacities with national agencies such as the DEA and FBI. This involvement allows them to tackle an array of cases, spanning from local to federal significance.

Beyond their investigative and enforcement duties, the Narcotics Unit is committed to community outreach and public education. Collaborating with entities like the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, Fairfax Probation, Fairfax Office of Emergency Management, and the FCPD Explorers, the detectives educate the community and stakeholders on the latest trends and dangers within the drug subculture.
