Suspect Quickly Apprehended After Stealing Police Car

Fair Oaks Police District – Detectives from our Auto Crimes Enforcement (ACE) Unit have arrested a man who stole an FCPD police cruiser and led officers on a chase in Fair Oaks yesterday.

On June 21 at approximately 11:35 a.m., Fair Oaks officers were alerted to a stolen 2010 Toyota Corolla near the Fair Oaks Mall. An officer located the vehicle parked at the mall with three occupants inside.   The driver, Kenton Smith, 46, of no fixed address, attempted to walk away from the stolen vehicle when the officer arrived.

The officer attempted to stop Smith and one of the passengers, Eric Gutierrez, 30, of Ashland, exited the stolen vehicle and stole the officer’s unmarked police cruiser. Gutierrez failed to stop for officers and a short pursuit ensued. Gutierrez crashed into two police cruisers and was taken into custody. Gutierrez and two officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries due to the crash.

The other passenger, Natrua Mayfield-Jackson, 28, of Maryland, and Smith were taken into custody at the mall.

Gutierrez was transported to the Adult Detention Center and charged with two counts of Grand Larceny – Auto Theft, Grand Larceny, Felony Speed to Elude, and served with two outstanding warrants. He is currently being held at the Adult Detention Center on no bond. A mugshot is unavailable at this time.

Mayfield-Jackson was transported to the Adult Detention Center and served with two outstanding warrants. She was held on no bond.

Smith was transported to the Adult Detention Center and charged with Unauthorized Use and Grand Larceny. He was held on a secured bond.
