Detectives Seek Additional Victims of an Online Predator

McLean Police District – Detectives from our Child Exploitation Unit are seeking the community’s assistance in investigating potential victims of an online predator.

On June 7, at approximately 6:52 p.m., detectives from McLean District Station received a tip from the community regarding a man’s inappropriate communication with an underage victim via an internet platform. Subsequently, the suspect was located at a location in Tysons Corner where he intended to meet and potentially engage in sexual acts with the victim.

After a thorough investigation, detectives arrested Gerry Frank Burde, 41, of Herndon. Evidence corroborating the incident was collected. He was taken to Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with Use of Communications System to Solicit a Minor, Attempted Forcible Intercourse with a Victim under 13 years old, and Indecent Liberties with a Child Under 15.

Detectives believe Burde may have targeted other victims through direct contact or on platforms such as Snapchat (username: drunkslovepunch) or Whisper (username: Tempo_Ex). Detectives are urging anyone who has interacted with Burde to contact them at 703-246-7800, option 6, and share any information they may have.

Parents are urged to closely monitor their children’s online activities and use available security settings to prevent the use of inappropriate sites or platforms. Children should be encouraged to report any person engaging in inappropriate conversations or trying to coerce them into providing sexually explicit images of themselves. Additional internet safety information provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children can be found HERE. There are many applications predators use to solicit victims. Parents are encouraged to know what applications their children are using and have an open dialog about the dangers they may pose.

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding these incidents or others with a similar nexus to call our Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 6.
