Detectives Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run in Springfield
Franconia Police District — Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run crash in Springfield.
On September 13, around 6:00 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of Franconia Road and Elder Avenue in Springfield for a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle.
Preliminarily, detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit determined Julio Cesar Pasassi, 43, of Springfield was walking west alongside the eastbound lanes of Franconia Road on the sidewalk. The driver of a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling east on Franconia Road when they drove off the roadway and struck Pasassi. Pasassi was declared deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Volkswagen abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled before police arrived.
The investigation into the crash continues as detectives work to identify the driver of the Volkswagen.
