Detectives Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Centreville

Sully Police District – Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continue to investigate a fatal pedestrian crash in Centreville.

On September 21, around 8:19 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Route 29 and White Post Road in Centreville for a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle.

Preliminarily, detectives determined that Tracy Roane, 56, of Centreville, was walking in the northbound lanes of Route 29, not in a crosswalk. The driver of a Nissan SUV was traveling northbound on Route 29 just past White Post Road and struck Roane. Roane remained in the roadway and was struck by additional vehicles. He was declared deceased, and all drivers remained at the scene.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor for the drivers, and speed is still under investigation. Alcohol remains under investigation for the pedestrian. The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated.
