Fatal Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash in Hybla Valley
Mount Vernon Police District – Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continue to investigate a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian crash in Hybla Valley.
On September 26, at 6:46 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of Richmond Highway and Woodlawn Trail in Hybla Valley for a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian. Preliminarily, CRU detectives determined James Matthew Martin, 57, was crossing Richmond Highway from east to west outside the crosswalk when he was struck by the driver of a vehicle. Martin was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene before officers arrived.
The next day, CRU detectives identified the driver, who was operating a Toyota Camry during the crash.
Whether speed or alcohol was a factor in the crash remains under investigation. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash and potential charges.
