Lottery Ticket Thief: Winning Streak Ends

Fairfax County, VA – Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau have arrested a man after a series of lottery ticket larcenies.

On September 15, officers responded to a convenience store in the 2900 block of Chain Bridge Road in Oakton for a report of a larceny and assault. Officers learned that a man, later identified as Mohammad Akhtar, 39, of Reston went behind the counter and stole lottery tickets while the clerk was distracted. When the clerk returned, Akhtar assaulted him before leaving on foot. The clerk received non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives began investigating and determined Akhtar was linked to several similar cases involving over $6,500 worth of stolen lottery tickets in September.
