Fairfax County, VA — Our Major Crimes Bureau’s Domestic Violence Squad and Victim Services Division is dedicated to supporting victims and breaking the cycle of domestic violence. Together, both squads work to provide victims with the resources, support, and justice they deserve. Through ongoing training, advocacy, and unwavering commitment, they strive to empower victims, helping them reclaim their lives and find hope for the future.

What do Domestic Violence Detectives do?

Domestic violence detectives specialize in investigating felony-level family and dating violence cases, with a focus on conducting thorough investigations that ensure victims receive the support they need while holding offenders accountable through the legal system. FCPD remains at the forefront of domestic violence prevention and education. Throughout the year, detectives from the Domestic Violence Squad, in collaboration with our Victim Services Specialists, have provided enhanced training to patrol officers, specifically addressing the complexities of investigating strangulation and suffocation cases. Additionally, detectives and specialists have participated in specialized trainings on trauma-informed responses to domestic violence, further strengthening their ability to support victims and addressing these crimes effectively.

What do Victim Service Specialists do?

Victim Services Specialists are essential in providing support to victims of violent crime. Specialists offer emotional support, crisis intervention, and guide victims through the complexities of the criminal justice system. Their primary mission is to empower victims by ensuring they are aware of their rights and have access to vital resources. This includes connecting them with emergency shelters, counseling, legal advocacy, and financial assistance for those in need. Through specialists’ comprehensive support, the Victim Services Division helps victims cope with the trauma they’ve experienced and take important steps toward healing.
