No Tricks, Just Tips for a Happy Halloween
Fairfax County, VA – Who says your Halloween can’t be spooky and safe? As you make plans and prepare for Halloween night, it is essential to ensure our festivities are as safe as they are fun. Please keep these safety tips in mind as you embark on your haunted celebrations.

For drivers on Halloween:
- Please stay alert and be mindful of distracted children.
- Put your phone down and avoid all distractions!
- Leave driveways and parking spaces slowly.
- Slow down, particularly through residential areas.
- Do not pass vehicles stopped in the roadway as they may be stopped for pedestrians.
- Carefully enter roadways, driveways, and alleyways.
For parents:
- Plan and discuss your child’s route if you aren’t joining them for trick-or-treating.
- Remind children that they should never enter a stranger’s house.
- Let your child know they should only visit homes with their porch light on.
- Make sure they know to cross at intersections or corners, not between parked cars.
- Trick-or-treat in groups and not alone – it’s more fun AND safer that way.
- Always send your child out with a flashlight, consider having a reflective costume!
- Always check your child’s candy before they consume any.
We hope you all have a safe and hauntingly good Halloween! 🎃
