Man Arrested After Non-Fatal Shooting in Woodlawn

Mount Vernon Police District – Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau have charged a man in connection to yesterday’s non-fatal shooting in Woodlawn.

Yesterday at 2:09 p.m., officers responded to the 8200 block of Richmond Highway in Woodlawn for reports of a shooting. Officers located the victim, an adult man, who suffered from a gunshot wound to the lower body. He was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminarily, detectives determined that the victim and the suspect were involved in a verbal argument when the shooting occurred. The suspect fled the scene but was quickly identified as Dominique Whitaker, 36, of Alexandria.

Whitaker was arrested at his residence and charged with Malicious Wounding, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, and Destruction of Property. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and held on no bond.
