Prince George’s Community College Chief of Police Arrested for DUI Maiming

Fair Oaks Police District— Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit have arrested the Chief of Police of Prince George’s Community College for DUI Maiming after causing a two-vehicle crash in Fair Lakes.

On December 6, at 7:30 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Random Hills Road and Fairfax Hills Way in Fair Lakes for a two-vehicle crash. Officers learned Derek Myers, 55, of Burke was traveling eastbound on Random Hills Way in a Hyundai Elantra when he lost control of his vehicle. Myers entered the westbound lanes on Random Hills Way and struck the victim’s Honda CRV. The victim was transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition. Myers was transported in non-life-threatening condition and officers continued to investigate the crash.

Preliminarily detectives learned that Myers’ blood alcohol content level was approximately 0.28 at the time of the crash. Today Myers turned himself in to authorities and was charged with DUI Maiming. He was held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated.
