Detectives Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Chantilly
Sully Police District – Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred Monday morning in Chantilly.
On December 23, at approximately 6:33 a.m., officers responded to the area of Sully Road and Poplar Tree Road in Chantilly for a crash involving a pedestrian.
Preliminarily, CRU detectives determined that the driver of a 2016 Freightliner Cascadia 125 was traveling northbound on Sully Road in the far-right lane. The pedestrian, Amin Emad-Eldin Hammoud, 33, of Centreville, was standing outside his disabled vehicle on the right shoulder when the driver of the Freightliner drifted to the right, crossed the solid white line, and struck him. Hammoud was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the Freightliner was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors for the driver. The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated.
