Predator Travels 1,200 Miles; Arrested for Soliciting a Minor

Reston Police District – Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau have arrested a man on multiple charges related to the solicitation of a minor.

On January 25, at 3:05 p.m., officers responded to the 2000 block of Blue Ridge Court near Reston for the report of the solicitation of a minor. The complainant reported he found his 15-year-old child with an adult man in a residence. Detectives from our Child Exploitation Unit responded to assume the investigation.

Detectives determined that Trent Fair, 30, of Minnesota, met the victim through a social media platform. He then traveled to Virginia to engage in illicit acts with the victim.

Fair was charged with four counts of Solicitation of a Minor, five counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, and Production of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). He is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on no bond.

Victim specialists from our Major Crimes Bureau’s Victim Services Division have been assigned to ensure the victim is receiving appropriate resources and assistance.

Parents are urged to closely monitor their children’s online activities and use available security settings to prevent the use of inappropriate sites or platforms. Children should be encouraged to report any person engaging in inappropriate conversations or trying to coerce them into providing sexually explicit images of themselves. Additional internet safety information provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children can be found HERE. There are many applications predators use to solicit victims. Parents are encouraged to know what applications their children are using and have an open dialog about the dangers they may pose.
