Fairfax County Chief Kevin Davis Announces Major Promotions

Fairfax County, VA – FCPD is proud to announce the promotions of Dana Ferreira and Todd Sweeney to the rank of Major.

Dana Ferreira has been promoted to the rank of Major and will assume command of the Animal Services Division.

Major Ferreira began his career with the Fairfax County Police Department in 2008 and served as a Patrol Officer and Neighborhood Patrol Unit member in the Mount Vernon District. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2014 and was assigned to several district stations across the County. He was later chosen as the first supervisor of the DWI Enforcement Squad, where he and his team worked to keep the County’s roadways safe from impaired drivers. He has served as the Assistant Commander for the McLean District Station and Cyber and Forensics Division.  

Major Ferreira holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Mary Washington. He has completed multiple leadership development courses throughout the County, including the FCPD’s Commander College, and was an instructor for the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s Leadership in Police Organizations program.

Todd Sweeney has been promoted to the rank of Major and will assume command of the Special Operations Division.

Major Sweeney began his career with the Fairfax County Police Department in 2006 and served as a Patrol Officer at the McLean District Station. He was selected for the department’s K9 unit, where he served as a Tactical K9 handler and trainer until his promotion to Sergeant in 2018. As a Sergeant, he served as a first-line supervisor at the Reston District Station and was chosen to join the Decentralized SWAT team. During his tenure as a Second Lieutenant, he led the department’s Fugitive Tracking and Apprehension Unit, working as a Task Force Officer with the FBI and U.S. Marshals Service.

Major Sweeney previously served as the Assistant Commander of the Internal Affairs Bureau and Special Operations Division. He is also the President of the FCPD Fallen Officer Memorial Organization. Major Sweeney holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland at College Park and is a graduate of Fairfax County’s Middle Manager Round Table and the Washington DC Police Leadership Academy.
