FCPS Substitute Teacher Charged with Assault

Reston Police District –Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau’s Child Abuse Squad have arrested a Dogwood Elementary School substitute teacher for assaulting a student.

On September 25, 2024, Child Protective Services received a referral that a substitute teacher had assaulted a student at school. The student sustained minor injuries. Detectives were notified and assumed the investigation. Detectives determined that Rakshanda Jaiban, 44, of Sterling, assaulted a student during school hours.

Yesterday, Jaiban turned herself in and was served a summons releasable charge for Simple Assault. No mugshot is available at this time.

Jaiban was relieved of her duties with Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) upon the allegation.  She has been employed with FCPS as a substitute teacher since 2019.

Victim specialists from our Victim Services Division have been assigned to ensure that the victim receives appropriate resources and assistance.
