FCPS Teacher Arrested for Aggravated Sexual Battery of Two Students

West Springfield Police District – Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau’s Child Abuse Squad have arrested a Fairview Elementary School teacher on two counts of aggravated sexual battery.

On January 17, Child Protective Services received a referral that a teacher had sexually assaulted one of his students. The student was not injured. Detectives were notified and assumed the investigation.

Through their investigation, detectives determined that John Barger, 47, of Springfield, had sexually assaulted two students on separate occasions.

Yesterday, Barger was arrested and charged with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Battery. He is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on no bond.

Barger was placed on administrative leave upon the allegations and remains suspended. He has been employed with Fairfax County Public Schools as a teacher since 2017.

Victim specialists from our Victim Services Division have been assigned to ensure the victims are receiving appropriate resources and assistance.
