Man in Custody After Domestic-Related Homicide in Chantilly
Fair Oaks Police District – An man is in custody after fatally shooting his wife in Chantilly today.
On February 28, at 6:09 a.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 13000 block of Pennypacker Lane in Chantilly. The complaint reported that her father shot her mother. Officers located Marilyn Sommer, 87, of Chantilly suffering from trauma to the upper body. She was declared deceased at the scene.
Preliminarily, detectives believe Douglas Sommer, 88, of Chantilly fatally shot his wife inside their residence.

Sommer was taken into custody and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Second-Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony. He was held on no bond.
Detectives continue to conduct interviews and process evidence recovered from the scene to determine the circumstances that led up to the fatal shooting.
