Caught Red (and White) Handed: Teen Arrested for Graffiti and Destruction of Property in Burke

West Springfield Police District – Officers have arrested a 16-year-old suspect responsible for over 50 incidents of graffiti and property damage that have impacted several businesses and personal property in Burke.

On March 12 at 7:20 a.m., officers responded to the 6000 block of Burke Centre Parkway in Burke for multiple reports of hate-based graffiti located on various forms of property. Offensive graffiti was located during these investigations and detectives responded to assume the investigation.

Last night, at 11:20 p.m., officers responded to the 9500 block of Burke Road in Burke for more reports of vandalized property. A male suspect was seen spray painting a loading dock at a nearby business. Officers located the teen and quickly determined he was responsible, due to the presence of spray paint on his hands and clothes.

The 16-year-old was in possession of spray paint cans and items suspected to be used to destroy property. He is believed to be the suspect of numerous reports of graffiti and destruction of property that occurred last night. Detectives continue to investigate his involvement in other destruction of property cases throughout the West Springfield District.

The suspect was released to a family member and criminal petitions will be sought for multiple counts of Destruction of Property.
