Reeling in Reckless Drivers: FCPD Kicks Off 2025 “Road Shark” Campaign
Fairfax County, VA – The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) and Virginia State Police (VSP) are proud to announce the launch of the 2025 “Road Shark” campaign—a continued effort to deter aggressive driving, reduce crashes, and promote safer roads across Fairfax County. Building on the success of last year’s campaign, Road Shark 2025 aims to make an even greater impact by combining high-visibility enforcement, community engagement, and data-informed strategies to create safer roadways for everyone.

A Legacy of Success
The Road Shark program has been a cornerstone of traffic safety in Fairfax County since it was introduced in 1999 in response to rising traffic crashes and reckless driving behaviors. Over the years, the initiative has led to measurable improvements in road safety through targeted enforcement and public education.
In 2024, the Road Shark campaign made a significant impact:

- Nearly 35,000 citations and warnings were issued across five enforcement waves.
- A marked decrease in traffic incidents was observed throughout the county.
- Enhanced community awareness led to more responsible driving behavior.
Encouraged by last year’s progress, FCPD is committed to elevating these efforts in 2025 to ensure even greater road safety.
What to Expect from Road Shark 2025
Road Shark 2025 will continue to focus on three key pillars:
1. High-Visibility Enforcement (HiVE)
FCPD officers and Virginia State Troopers will conduct targeted enforcement in key areas identified through traffic data analysis. Officers will be on the lookout for violations such as:
- Aggressive driving
- Speeding
- Distracted driving
- School zone violations
- Driving under the influence (DUI)
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has found that high-visibility enforcement efforts like Road Shark significantly reduce crashes and improve safety outcomes.
2. Community Engagement and Education
Road Shark 2025 isn’t just about enforcement—it’s about building a culture of safety. FCPD will actively engage with the community through educational events, social media outreach, and direct communication to encourage safe driving habits.
3. Data-Informed Decision Making
By analyzing data and identifying high-risk areas, FCPD will target enforcement efforts where they’re needed most. This approach ensures that resources are used effectively to reduce crash rates and improve overall road safety.
