Road Shark’s First Wave Starts Strong: Over 9,000 Citations and Warnings Issued

Fairfax County, VA – The first wave of the Road Shark campaign has concluded with an impressive 9,320 citations and warnings issued across Fairfax County.

Between March 17 and 23, the Fairfax County Police Department worked in conjunction with the Virginia State Police (VSP) to enforce traffic laws throughout the county. In the first week, officers and troopers issued 675 citations for speeding, 222 citations for reckless driving, and 205 hands-free citations. Additionally, the first wave resulted in 113 felony charges, 34 arrests for intoxicated driving and the recovery of three stolen vehicles.

The 2025 Road Shark campaign is designed to increase police visibility, enforce traffic laws, and educate drivers to combat aggressive driving, reduce traffic crashes, and promote safer roadways.

Through diligent efforts, our officers and Virginia State Troopers play a crucial role in ensuring Fairfax County roads are safer by cracking down on reckless driving. One highlight was the apprehension of a driver travelling at 111 miles per hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone. These drivers pose serious risks to themselves and others.

FCPD officers and our Virginia State Police partners issued over 3,600 more citations and warnings than issued in our first Road Shark wave of 2024.

Wave two of Road Shark will begin on April 21.
