Detectives Investigate Inmate’s Death at the Adult Detention Center

Fairfax County, VA – Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau are conducting a death investigation of an inmate at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center (ADC).

On March 31, around 6:17 p.m., Sam Zu Yung, 32, was found unresponsive in his single cell at the ADC. Deputies and EMS immediately began performing life-saving measures.  Yung was later declared deceased.  Detectives continue to investigate Yung’s death and preliminarily, foul play is not suspected.

Yung has been in the custody of the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office and incarcerated at the ADC since February 16, 2025.

By policy, the FCPD investigates all Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office in-custody deaths.
