Detectives Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Idylwood

McLean Police District – Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred yesterday in Idylwood.

On April 2, at approximately 4:21 p.m., officers responded to the area of Lee Highway and Fallfax Drive in Idylwood for a crash involving a pedestrian.

Preliminarily, CRU detectives determined that the driver of a 2020 Nissan cargo van was traveling westbound on Lee Highway in the far-right lane. The pedestrian, German Gomez, 87, of Falls Church, stepped out into the westbound lanes of Lee Highway and was struck by the Nissan. Gomez was transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition and was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the Nissan was uninjured and remained on scene.

Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors for the driver. The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated.
