Man Arrested for Fatal Shooting in Woodlawn
Mount Vernon Police District— Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau have identified and charged a Maryland man involved in a fatal shooting in Woodlawn.
On April 3, at 1:31 a.m., officers responded to the 8400 block of Madge Lane in Woodlawn for a shot person call. Officers located two adult men suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers began performing life-saving measures until relieved by fire and rescue personnel. Xavier Alexander, 43, of Alexandria was pronounced deceased at the scene and the other man was transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition.
Through their investigation, detectives learned Alexander was outside of the residence where a dispute ensued between him and Shawn Banks, 35, of Maryland. Alexander then shot multiple times into the residence, striking a third man. Banks then shot Alexander multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Through coordination with the Prince George’s County Police Department, our Fugitive Tracking and Apprehension Team located Banks in Maryland and took him into custody. He is being held at the Prince George’s County Jail awaiting extradition back to Fairfax County where he will be charged with Second Degree Murder, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
