Annandale Man Charged with Second Degree Murder After Fatal Assault
Mason Police District— Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau have arrested a man for his involvement in a suspicious death that occurred in Annandale on August 4.
On August 12, detectives were contacted by the Medical Examiner’s Office about a suspicious death. Detectives learned Elmer Castro, 32, of no fixed address was brought into a local hospital by ambulance on August 4. Castro was believed to be intoxicated and injured from a possible fall, but his health quickly declined and he succumbed to his injuries eight days later.
Through their investigation, detectives learned Castro was assaulted by Elmar Waldemar Xitumul Vasquez, 39, of Annandale on August 4.

On September 5, officers from our Mason Neighborhood Patrol Unit located Vasquez and took him into custody. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with Second Degree Murder. He was held on no bond.
Detectives continue to conduct interviews to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal assault.
