FCPS Instructional Assistant Arrested for Aggravated Sexual Battery of Two Students
Franconia Police District – Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau’s Child Abuse Squad have arrested a Thomas Edison High School Instructional Assistant after inappropriately touching two students.
On September 25, Child Protective Services received two referrals that a teacher had inappropriately touched two of his students on separate occasions. Detectives were notified and assumed the investigation.
Through their investigation, detectives determined that Derrick Burroughs, 40, of Alexandria, had sexually assaulted two students on separate occasions.
Yesterday, Burroughs was arrested and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Burroughs was charged with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Battery and Indecent Liberties by Custodian. He was released on a $3,000 bond.

Burroughs was placed on administrative leave upon the allegations and remains suspended. He has been employed with Fairfax County Public Schools as an instructional assistant since 2023.
Victim specialists from our Victim Services Division have been assigned to ensure the victims are receiving appropriate resources and assistance.
