FCPD Recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Month with Community Initiatives
Fairfax County, VA – October is recognized nationwide as Domestic Violence Awareness Month – a time to honor survivors, raise awareness, and strengthen community partnerships in effort to end domestic violence. The Fairfax County Police Department’s Victim Services Division (VSD) is proud to announce two signature initiatives this month, aimed at supporting survivors and engaging our community.

The 2nd Annual Empowerment Through Care Drive, running now through October 31, invites community members to donate self-care items for survivors of domestic violence.
This initiative unites law enforcement, local businesses, and community members across Fairfax County to raise awareness of domestic violence These donations are meant to do more than fill a bag, they create meaningful moments of dignity and encouragement for those navigating recovery. Domestic violence often leaves behind emotional, financial, and psychological scars, and while no single gesture can erase that pain, this effort reflects the community’s support and belief in survivors as they rebuild their lives. When survivors feel seen, valued, and worthy of care, it is just another step toward their healing journey.
All donations will be gifted to domestic violence survivors at a special event held in their honor. For more information please email Saly at Saly.Fayez@fairfaxcounty.gov.

On Saturday, October 18, the Victim Services Division will host the 17th Annual K9 Krawl, a 5K community walk that shines spotlight on the connection between domestic violence and animal cruelty.
This family-friendly event invites participants to walk alongside their dogs, enjoy interactive activities, and connect with resources that highlight how abuse impacts not only victims but also the pets they love. The K9 Krawl is more than just a walk—it’s a way for our community to come together, raise awareness, and promote safety for both people and animals.

“Domestic Violence Awareness Month is about more than awareness—it is about action. It’s about coming together as a community to support survivors, shine a light on abuse, and reaffirm our shared commitment to safety and justice,” said Saly Fayez, Director of Victim Services. “By hosting two major events this October, we are not only standing with victims, but also creating powerful opportunities to educate the public and remind everyone of the role we each play in prevention and healing.”
The Victim Services Division invites all Fairfax County residents and partners to join in these initiatives. Together, we can empower survivors, raise awareness, and take meaningful steps toward ending domestic violence.
