Detectives Investigate Fatal Crash near Hayfield
Mount Vernon Police District – Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that left a man dead near Hayfield.
Last night at 7:39 p.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Jeff Todd Way prior to Telegraph Road near Hayfield.
Preliminarily, the driver of a 2003 Cadillac DeVille was traveling northbound on Jeff Todd Way when the vehicle crossed into the southbound lanes of Jeff Todd Way. The Cadillac Deville then struck a 2017 Toyota Highlander that was traveling southbound.
The driver of the Cadillac Deville, William Poe Jr, 49, of Alexandria, was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the Toyota Highlander, an adult male, and his adult female passenger were transported to a local hospital with injuries considered to be non-life-threatening.
Detectives are investigating whether speed, alcohol, or a possible medical emergency contributed to the crash.
