29th Annual National Drug Take Back Day Results
Fairfax County, VA – This past Saturday, our district stations partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and other Fairfax County agencies for the 29th Annual National Drug Take Back Day. Together we collected 497.3 pounds of expired or unused medications from community members across the county.

Individual totals from each district station are listed above, showing the incredible collective effort to keep our homes and community safe.
This biannual initiative addresses important safety and public health concerns. Unused or expired medications left unsecured can pose serious risks, including misuse, accidental poisoning, and overdoses.
Missed the event? No problem. You can safely dispose of medications year-round at our secure drug take-back boxes located inside each of our police district stations.
Accepted items include:
- Prescription medications (Schedule II–V controlled and non-controlled substances)
- Prescription ointments
- Over-the-counter medications
- Pet medications
Not accepted:
- Needles (sharps)
- Liquids of any kind
- Illegal drugs
- Non-prescription ointments and lotions
- Aerosol cans
- Inhalers
