Missing Chantilly Man Located Deceased in Lorton

Fairfax County, VA— Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a missing man in Chantilly.

On December 1, at 8:00 p.m., officers responded to Point Pleasant Drive in Chantilly for a missing person report. The complainant reported that Quang Hang, 78, of Chantilly did not return home after leaving for a vehicle inspection in Leesburg at 2:30 p.m.

Detectives and officers conducted extensive investigative efforts, including reviewing video and Flock camera footage, checking area hospitals, and deploying our Fairfax 1 helicopter, patrol officers, and drones. Detectives interviewed family members to better understand Mr. Hang’s pattern of life, monitored financial activity, and leveraged regional partnerships to search for his vehicle beyond Virginia. As the investigation continued, he was upgraded to critically missing on December 3 under Virginia State Police guidelines and a Critical Missing Alert was issued.

Throughout the week, additional units—including the Real Time Crime Center, Marine Patrol, and the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit—continued ground, air, and underwater search operations. Today, Special Operations Division officers located Mr. Hang’s submerged vehicle in the Occoquan River near Old Colchester Road in Lorton. The vehicle was removed from the water and Mr. Hang was found inside, deceased. Foul play is not suspected and a death investigation is underway.
