Detectives Investigating Fatal Three-Vehicle Crash in Fair Haven

Mount Vernon Police District- Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal three-vehicle crash that left one man dead in Fair Haven.

Yesterday at 10:04 a.m., officers responded to a crash in the 6300 block of Richmond Highway in Fair Haven.

Preliminarily, a Washington Metro Area Transit Authority (WMATA) bus was stopped in the right lane of northbound Richmond Highway with a 2014 Toyota Sienna stopped behind it. A 2013 Toyota Camry taxicab traveling northbound struck the Toyota Sienna, causing it to collide with the rear of the Metro bus. The Metro bus was in service at the time and had five people on board, one driver and four passengers, all of whom were not injured.

The driver of the Toyota Camry taxicab, a 67-year-old male of Alexandria, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification. The driver of the Toyota Sienna, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two passengers in the Toyota Sienna, one adult female and one adult male, sustained life-threatening injuries and remain hospitalized.

Preliminarily, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Detectives continue to investigate whether speed was a factor.
