Detectives Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Crash Near Fair Oaks

Fair Oaks District Station- Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that left one man dead near Fair Oaks.

Yesterday at 9:43 a.m., officers responded to an unresponsive male lying in the grass median of Fairfax County Parkway at Old Plains Road. The pedestrian, Jimmy Patterson, 50, of no fixed address, was declared deceased on scene. Preliminarily, detectives believed the deceased was struck by a vehicle traveling on Fairfax County Parkway. 

During the investigation, the driver of the striking vehicle returned to the scene.  The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated. Preliminarily, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Detectives continue to investigate whether speed was a factor.
