Felony Abduction Suspect Arrested After Pursuit on I-495

Mount Vernon Police District- Officers from our West Springfield District Neighborhood Patrol Unit (NPU) arrested a wanted man after he fled from a traffic stop in Huntington.

On January 13 at 3:53 p.m., officers tracked and located a suspect wanted for Felony Abduction to the area of Interstate 495 and Telegraph Road in Huntington. They attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver sped away and a pursuit was initiated. As they pursued the vehicle, a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver was executed, stopping the vehicle. The suspect then fled on foot. The driver of the vehicle, Flor Garcia, 43, of Alexandria, remained on scene and was taken into custody.  

Fairfax 1, Virginia State Police, Alexandria Police Department, and patrol officers responded to assist with the search for the suspect. Moments later, Fairfax 1 located Juan Arevalo, 46, of no fixed address, in a wooded area and he was taken into custody by officers.

Arevalo was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was served outstanding warrants for Abduction, Simple Assault, Petit Larceny, Failure to Appear, and an Assault warrant from another jurisdiction. He was additionally charged with Obstruction of Justice and held on no bond.  

Garcia was charged with Felony Speed to Elude and later released on a $2,000 bond.
