Freezing for a Reason: $100K Raised at Polar Plunge 2026
Fairfax County, VA- The Fairfax County Police Department was proud to once again take the plunge at the 2026 Polar Plunge at the Mosaic District, helping raise $100,000 in support of Special Olympics Virginia.
This annual event is one our department looks forward to every year, even when the water is bitterly cold, the air temperature is hovering near 10 degrees, and a historic winter storm is looming. Cold weather has never stopped FCPD from showing up for a cause that means so much to our officers, professional staff, and community.

A Tradition of Support for Special Olympics Virginia
FCPD has a longstanding relationship with Special Olympics Virginia and proudly supports the organization through events like the Polar Plunge, Law Enforcement Torch Run, and Little Feet Meets. Each event represents our continued commitment to inclusion, empowerment, and community connection.
The Polar Plunge brings together law enforcement agencies, community partners, families, and supporters for one unforgettable reason: to support athletes of all abilities.

Leading the Way into the Cold
This year’s plunge was kicked off by Chief Kevin Davis, who led the way with the first splash into the icy water. Officers followed close behind, embracing the cold and the challenge with enthusiasm and pride.
To ensure everyone’s safety, members of the FCPD Dive Team were in the water, while our Safety Officer Section and additional officers supported the event on land. Officers, professional staff, and volunteers cheered on plungers, helped promote the cause, and kept the energy high throughout the day.
The Public Affairs Bureau Digital Team partnered with the Mosaic District to provide live coverage on TV screens across the venue and captured video and photos to share the excitement and impact of the event with the broader community.

A True Team Effort
Reaching this incredible fundraising milestone would not have been possible without the collective efforts of our officers, professional staff, and their families and friends, along with community members who donated, cheered, and supported the cause.
FCPD was honored to be part of an event that brings people together, even in freezing conditions, for something far bigger than the cold.
Supporting a Life-Changing Mission
The 2026 Polar Plunge may be over, but support for Special Olympics Virginia continues. Funds raised help provide free, year-round sports, competitions, leadership opportunities, and health services to more than 23,000 athletes of all abilities across the Commonwealth.
Donations are still being accepted, and every contribution makes a difference. If you’re able, please consider supporting this incredible cause.
