Detectives Investigate Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash in Braddock

Sully Police District— Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal four-vehicle crash that left one man dead in Braddock.

On February 6, at 1:09 p.m., officers responded to a crash at Braddock Road and Prestwick Drive in Braddock.

Preliminarily, three vehicles were stopped at a red traffic signal in the eastbound lanes of Braddock Road. A Toyota Camry, traveling at a high rate of speed on eastbound Braddock Road, struck a Fairfax County police cruiser that was stopped as the third vehicle in the lane. The impact caused the cruiser to strike the vehicle in front of it, which was then pushed into a fourth vehicle.

The driver of the Toyota Camry, Dariush Bakhtiani, 57, of Centreville, was transported to the hospital in life-threatening condition and later pronounced deceased. The on-duty police officer driving the Fairfax County cruiser was transported to the hospital with injuries considered to be non-life-threatening.

Speed is believed to be a factor. Detectives continue to investigate if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
