Suspect in Phone Store Burglaries Arrested Within 24 Hours

Mount Vernon Police District – Detectives from our Criminal Investigations Division have charged a man less than 24 hours after a series of commercial burglaries targeting businesses near Hybla Valley and McLean.

On January 28, at 1:57 a.m., officers responded to a burglary at Boost Mobile at 8516 Richmond Highway. The suspect broke the front window with a rock, entered the store and stole the cash register. Surveillance footage captured the entire incident.

On February 4, between 2:30 a.m. and 4:06 a.m., officers responded to two commercial burglary alarm activations at businesses in Hybla Valley. The officers located a total of five businesses that had been burglarized. Detectives from our Criminal Investigations Division and Cyber and Forensics Division responded to assume the investigations.

Detectives reviewed security camera footage from the businesses and determined the same suspect was responsible for the January 28 burglary, all four commercial burglaries near Hybla Valley, and the McLean burglary.

Cameras integrated through the Connect Fairfax County program helped detectives identify a vehicle linked to at least one of the cases. Using license plate reader technology, the Real Time Crime Center identified the suspect vehicle.

Later that evening, Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers located the vehicle in Washington, D.C.  The driver, Jimmie L. Williams, 36, of Washington, D.C., was detained by MPD officers after a traffic stop. FCPD detectives responded and, through their investigation, connected Williams to the above burglaries.

Detectives obtained warrants for Burglary, Destruction of Property, and Petit Larceny. Williams is currently being held at the D.C. Central Detention Facility. Upon completion of the legal process, he will be extradited to Fairfax County. Additional charges are anticipated. Detectives are continuing to work with other agencies in the National Capital Region to confirm his involvement in additional cases.
