Chief Davis Announces Promotion of Alaina Gertz to Director of Communications
Fairfax County, VA – Chief Kevin Davis has promoted Alaina Gertz to Director of Communications for the Fairfax County Police Department.

In this role, Gertz will lead the department’s comprehensive communications strategy and work closely with executive leadership to advance transparency, strengthen community engagement, and support operational priorities through clear and consistent messaging. She will provide oversight and direction to the Public Affairs Bureau, establish strategic priorities, guide media relations, and oversee digital, web, and internal communications efforts.
Gertz joined FCPD in 2023 as Deputy Director of Communications. During her tenure, she has coordinated media efforts during major incidents and high-profile events, led crisis communications across social media and press conferences, and enhanced content strategy to better inform and engage the community.
Prior to joining FCPD, Gertz served as Lead Public Affairs Specialist in the Office of Communications for the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC. There, she managed media relations during nationally significant events, including the response to the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, the 2021 Presidential Inauguration, and the 2019 World Series Championship.
Gertz earned a Master’s degree in Strategic Communication from Pennsylvania State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Strategic Communication from American University. She is an active member of the National Information Officers Association and continues to contribute to advancing best practices in public safety communications.
