Don’t Press Your Luck: St. Patrick’s Day DUI Enforcement in Fairfax County
Fairfax County, VA – With St. Patrick’s Day approaching, the Fairfax County Police Department’s Traffic Safety Division will conduct increased enforcement efforts focused on identifying and removing impaired drivers from Fairfax County roadways.

St. Patrick’s Day falls on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, but celebrations often begin days before the holiday. Organized bar crawls and other events are already being advertised as early as March 14, and officers anticipate increased activity throughout the weekend and into the holiday.
Because celebrations frequently extend late into the night, impaired driving crashes and arrests can also occur during the early morning hours following festivities.
To help prevent crashes and keep our roadways safe, officers will increase patrols and focus enforcement on drivers who are impaired by alcohol or drugs.
The message remains simple: Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving. Even small amounts of alcohol can impair judgment, reaction time, and coordination.
Residents planning to celebrate are encouraged to plan ahead and make safe transportation arrangements before going out.
Plan Ahead for a Safe Ride
- Plan a sober ride home before going out.
- Use a designated driver, rideshare service, taxi, or public transportation.
- If you see someone attempting to drive impaired, help them find a safe ride.
- Always wear your seatbelt and encourage others to do the same.
Choosing a safe ride home takes only a few moments, but driving impaired can lead to serious crashes, injuries, arrests, and lifelong consequences.
The Fairfax County Police Department encourages everyone to celebrate responsibly and make safe choices this St. Patrick’s Day.
