Off-Duty Sergeant on Administrative Leave Following Aggravated Sexual Battery Arrest

Fairfax County, VA – Yesterday, a Fairfax County Police Department Sergeant was arrested by the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office on charges of Aggravated Sexual Battery for an off-duty incident.

On April 18 at approximately 1 a.m., Sergeant Matthew Sylvester, 40, of Warrenton, a 16-year veteran assigned to the Internal Affairs Bureau, was taken into custody.

He was charged with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Battery. Both victims are known to him.

The Sergeant has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a criminal and administrative investigation.
