Mount Vernon Police District – In less than 24 hours, detectives from our Criminal Investigations Division (CID) identified and charged a man responsible for a malicious wounding that occurred this past Saturday.

On August 15, at 10:43 p.m., officers responded to the 7800 block of Richmond Highway in Hybla Valley for a stabbing. When officers arrived, they located a 41-year-old man suffering from stab wounds to the upper body. The victim was transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition and remains hospitalized. The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival.

Detectives determined the victim and suspect were in an argument prior to the stabbing. Through Connect Fairfax County integrated cameras, detectives with our Real Time Crime Center located surveillance footage of the suspect prior to the stabbing as officers were on scene investigating.

The following day, detectives with our Auto Crimes Enforcement Unit, Violent Crimes Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Warrant Squad and our patrol officers flooded the area to identify potential witnesses, additional surveillance footage and locate the suspect.

At approximately 4:40 p.m., Mount Vernon officers saw the suspect in the 3100 block of Sherwood Hall Lane in Hybla Valley wearing the same clothing as in the surveillance footage. Kamanti Michael Taylor Washington, 25, of Alexandria, was arrested and a knife was found in his possession. Washington was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with Malicious Wounding. He was held on no bond.
