Pedestrian Dies in Crash on Richmond Highway

On Monday, May 11, shortly before 9.p.m., a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse, driven by a 56-year-old man, was traveling southbound on Richmond Highway approaching Anderson Lane. The pedestrian, 58-year-old Sonia Granados, attempted to cross Richmond Highway from east to west, just prior to Anderson Lane and walked into the path of the Mitsubishi and was struck. She was not in a crosswalk and attempted to cross in a dimly lit area. Granados was ground transported to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later. Speed and alcohol were not factors for the driver of the Mitsubishi. Alcohol may have been a factor for Granados. The crash remains under investigation.
