Clean It Out, Clear the Risk: 30th Annual National Drug Take Back Day
Fairfax County, VA – National Drug Take Back Day plays an important role in reducing prescription drug misuse, preventing accidental poisoning, and protecting the environment by providing a safe way to dispose of unused or expired medications. Tomorrow, Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD), in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will host multiple medication drop-off locations throughout the county.

Why Participate?
Reduce Risk at Home: Unused or expired medications can lead to accidental poisoning, misuse, and addiction, especially opioid painkillers.
Protect the Environment: Improper disposal, such as flushing or throwing medications away, can pollute local waterways.
Help Prevent Prescription Drug Abuse: Many misused prescription drugs are obtained from family or friends. Safe disposal helps keep them out of the wrong hands.
Medication Drop-Off Guidelines
Bring unused or expired medications for safe disposal.
Accepted Items: Prescription and non-prescription pills, prescription ointments, medications for pets, e-cigarettes and vaping devices (with batteries removed), and small liquid packs or pods for vaping devices.
Not Accepted: Illegal drugs, needles, pressurized canisters (inhalers/aerosol cans), large quantities of liquids, and non-prescription ointments or lotions.
